STUART, FL · EST. 2015 · ABYC MASTER TECH

Rig it right. Get home on your own power.

Marine electrical and structural refit work for boats that run beyond the inlet. Capt. Brody “Nutz” Hendricks builds serviceable systems with tinned copper, properly protected lithium banks, and clear wiring documentation.

FIELD CALCULATOR · DC BRANCH CIRCUITS

Size the run before you pull the wire.

Enter the complete out-and-back conductor length. The calculator checks voltage drop and engine-space ampacity planning values for 105°C BC-5W2 tinned copper.

Voltage drop uses published standard copper resistance values; actual conductor temperature changes resistance. Ampacity uses engine-space planning values, without extra bundle, conduit, insulation, terminal, or equipment derating. See Blue Sea Systems voltage-drop guidance and copper resistance and engine-space ampacity data. Verify the completed design against current ABYC requirements.

READY FOR INPUT

Enter the circuit details to see voltage drop, minimum gauge, and a starting fuse selection.

SYSTEM OVERVIEW · DUAL OUTBOARD

Start with the current path.

Separate start and house service, retain a controlled emergency combine, and keep the lithium charging path current-limited.

SHOP CAPABILITIES

Built for salt, vibration, and service access.

01 / DC

ABYC E-11 rewires

Tinned copper conductors, labeled branches, supported runs, busbar distribution, and documented overcurrent protection.

02 / CHARGE

LiFePO4 & alternator protection

House-bank integration with DC-DC current limiting, suitable high-interrupt fusing, and an alternator plan for BMS disconnect events.

03 / BILGE

Bilge redundancy

Independent high-water alarm and pump circuits designed to remain useful when the primary float switch or branch fails.

04 / STRUCTURE

Coosa-board transom refits

Measured, dry-fit composite core work with hardware bedding and transom details suited to the boat’s actual load path.

SHOP NOTES · CAPT. BRODY HENDRICKS

Make the failure mode boring.

When a lithium BMS opens under charge, the alternator still has energy to put somewhere. A DC-DC charger can limit what the house bank asks for; it does not, by itself, solve every load-dump case. We look at regulator behavior, alternator protection, charge paths, fuse interrupt rating, and the boat’s emergency-combine habits as one system.
